    Sensei Delina Fuchs, CMT is President of the Board of Directors and School Head of Chico Kodenkan, whose history goes back to 1939 as the Chico Judo and Jujitsu Academy. She began her practice of Danzan Ryu (or Kodenkan) Jujitsu January 7, 1978 in Sensei Richard Radcliffe's children's classes. She was also fortunate enough to attend weekly adult classes with Sensei Radcliffe and the late Professor "Bud" Estes at the old Broadway, downtown Chico Kodenkan location until Professor's death on June 7, 1981. She continued her studies of jujitsu, massage, and jo (4-foot staff) with Sensei Radcliffe, adding Musoshinden Ryu Iaido (literally, "Traditional Spiritual Vision System" of Japanese sword drawing) in 1987. She currently holds an AJJF 4th degree black belt.

    Sensei Delina has been practicing Okazaki Restorative Massage since 1987 and earned her certification from the AJJF Danzan Ryu Seifukujitsu Institute in 1993. She also earned numerous Shiatsu massage certificates from Michael Turk LAc, director of the East/West Health Center.

    Upon completion of the 2003 Okugi "Special Class," held only three times in Danzan Ryu history, she was awarded the rare and coveted Kaidensho (Master Teaching Certificate) and title of Kyoshi (Master Teacher).

    Sensei Delina earned her Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Masters in English from CSU, Chico. She teaches in the English and Physical Education Departments at Butte College and the English Department at CSU, Chico. She is also an AAU Jujitsu National Champion.

  • Sensei Ron James, Nidan

    Sensei Ron Photo

    Sensei Ron James is Vice President of the Board of Directors at Chico Kodenkan. He began his study of Danzan Ryu Jujitsu with the late Professor Merlin "Bud" Estes in 1976 at the Chapman Center in Chico. After Prof's death in 1981, he continued his studies with Prof's student, Sensei Richard Radcliffe at the Broadway location of Chico Kodenkan. He also had the priveledge of teaching Prof's popular massage course through the Chico Area Recreation District (CARD). Sensei Ron received the rank of Nidan in 1987 and the title of Renshi (First Teaching License) from Sensei Radcliffe at the Flume Street location of Chico Kodenkan.

    After a hiatus of about eight years wherein he finished his degree at CSU, Chico and continued to grow his business, he returned to his study of Danzan Ryu Jujitsu and earned his AJJF Shodan rank. He has also earned several Shiatsu certifcates from Michael Turk, LAc. He now teaches the Friday adult jujitsu and massage class and weekly adult jujitsu classes at Chico Kodenkan.

  • Sensei Ken Couch, Shodan

    Sensei Ken Couch began his study of Danzan Ryu Jujtisu in 1966 with the late Professor Merlin "Bud" Estes at the Chapman Center in Chico. After serving in the Vietnam War, raising a family, and recovering from numerous surgeries, Sensei Ken returned to the mat to train with Sensei Richard Radcliffe at the Flume Street location of Chico Kodenkan. He then earned his Shodan from him on May 13, 1991.

    He is currently chair of the Computer Science Department at Butte College and teaches two, weekly children's jujitsu classes at Chico Kodenkan as well as occasional adult jujitsu and massage classes.

  • Rebecca Ryan, Yoga Instructor

    Rebecca Ryan

    Rebecca Ryan has studied Kundalini Yoga since 1974 with Yogi Bhajan Ph.D. She lived in an ashram, a community of Bhajan’s students, receiving her Kundalini Yoga teacher’s certificate in 1976. Becky earned her Bachelors in exercise physiology and certificate in sports medicine in 1996 and her MBA in 2005. Experience the power of Kundalini Yoga with Becky on Thursdays 7:15 - 8:15. Rebecca also offers the powerful healing energy of the Full Moon Meditation at the Chico Kodenkan monthly at 7:15 pm on the full moon, as well as her own Pranic Healing services.
